Paying respect to the dead
In the world of online news getting the tone right can sometimes be a challenge.
So it’s no surprise Twitter has been somewhat stirred up by Sydney’s Daily Telegraph headline: “Kids grieve for junkie actor dad” was a respectful headline?
The commentary has obviously filtered back to News Corp’s HQ, as it has been toned down to “Seymour-Hoffman battled heroin in rehab”.
Was this screencapped at the Mumbrella offices from their website? It reeks of a hoax, especially since the 2 headlines are in a different font and case. However happy to be shown wrong if someone actually saw this in person.

How about “Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman dead at 46” … wait, that’s how the SMH reported it.

If the Tele’s columnists saw this in any other outlet, they’d feast on it for weeks. What’s the bet Devine, Akerman and Bolt don’t mention it, other than to paint their critics as hateful?

yeah Ryano – you don’t like it therefore it’s a hoax.

It’s a farce. They use templates for news stories , so the headline fonts would have to be the same. Not the same font look at the cap S, and they have a standard template for all jobs online and a standard for print. So although the headline may have a different font in print it would not change online from one feed to another, and very unlikely to go from caps to lower. Jobs put through the story inspector system get rejected if they do not conform. It is a page style issue. I just noticed that they have just put a layer over a pic that doesn’t even line up, very bodgy look at the right hand side of the article in question it overlaps the pic by at least 2mm. All they have done is blown up the insert pic and dropped in shit at the bottom and fucked it up. Dumb really, if you are going to do that at least do a better job.

This is real – saw it yesterday on the site.

I’ve since had it confirmed by a few people that it was indeed real.
Sorry Cathryn if I tend not to take things I read online at face value. Trust me, I’m the last person who would defend that “News”paper.
