Perth radio ratings: Nova 93.7 wrestles back the lead from 96FM

Nova 93.7’s time away from the summit of the Perth radio ratings has been short-lived, with normal service resuming for the Nova Entertainment station in survey eight care of a 1.8 percentage point increase to end the year with a 14.3% share.

After topping the ratings in survey seven, for the first time since 2013, Australian Radio Network’s 96FM lost 1.9 points, falling to third spot overall in the process. The dip allowed Southern Cross Austereo’s (SCA) Mix94.5, which is set to join the Hit Network, to climb into second despite a flat book and an unchanging 12% share of listening.

Hit92.7, which as of survey one next year will be Triple M Perth, also had a flat result this time out, finishing in fourth place on 8.7%.

In the battle for AM, ABC Perth reclaimed the crown overall with a 1.9 percentage point gain to 8.5%. That result saw Nine Radio’s 6PR slip to second among AM stations and sixth overall with 7.9%.

Nova’s overall result was reflected in the breakfast ratings too, as legacy show Nathan, Nat and Shaun jumped to 15.9% share, up 1.9 points.

Nadia Mitsopoulos and Russell Woolf move into second place overall on breakfast, rising to 11.2%, ahead of 6PR’s Steve and Baz who are locked in a tie with Mix’s Clairsy, Matt and Kymba, each finishing the year with a 10.8% share of listening.

It was the final survey for the Mix 94.5 trio, with Dean ‘Clairsy’ Clairs recently announcing his retirement from radio, and Hit92.9 breakfast announcer Pete Curulli set to replace him in 2021.

The outgoing Hit92.9 finished as the fifth-ranked breakfast show on 9%, and also delivered gains on drive as Hughesy and Ed had a 1.3 percentage point gain in their final survey to wrap up as the #2 show in Perth.

The pair are heading to 2Day FM breakfast in 2021, with early-drive show Carrie and Tommy to take over the full drive slot on the national Hit Network.

Kate, Tim and Joel, itself a relatively new offering from Nova Entertainment on national drive, is the standout leader in the time slot with a 14.8% share of listening.
