Seven’s animal videos lose audience but still the most watched entertainment show of the night

animals make you laugh out loudVideos of animals doing amusing things outperformed people doing ‘real’ things for a fourth week in a row pulling, with Seven’s latest offering grabbing 841,000 metro viewers last night to be the most watched non-news program of the night.

Animals That Make You Laugh Out Loud was down 102,000 on last week’s Pets that make you laugh out loud and was also below previous specials focusing on Dogs (which drew 1.039m) and Cats (which drew 917,000), suggesting the format is beginning to lose traction with audiences.

Despite having the top non-news program of the night Nine beat Seven in main channel audience share with 19.1 per cent compared to 17.4 per cent.

The result was partially driven by Nine’s news result and reality cooking show The Hotplate which was just behind Animals with 833,000 viewers.

Ten’s The Great Australian Spelling Bee lifted, from last week’s low of 589,000, recording an audience of 624,000, ahead of its final two episodes next week, while The Project was its highest rating show of the night with 688,000.

None of the commercaial networks could rival the ABC at 8.30pm with Restoration Australia grabbing 756,000 viewers, ahead of Seven’s Winners and Losers (600,000), Superfoods: The Real Story on Nine from 9pm which had 483,000 and a repeat of NCIS on Ten which got 485,000.

In the news stakes Nine’s 6.30 half of the news bulletin pulled the biggest audience of the evening with 1.143m viewers up on the previous half hour which had 1.137m.

Seven News also had a higher audience at 6.30 with 998,000 viewers in the timeslot and 957,000 for the 6pm bulletin.

With Nine winning the night and Seven in second Ten was third with a 14.6 per cent on its main channel and the ABC had 13.7 per cent.
