Simon Cheng takes over as Menulog CMO

Healthy Life’s Simon Cheng has joined Menulog as chief marketing officer, Mumbrella can reveal.

Chen was P&O Cruises vice president of sales, marketing and PR before joining the health food retailer in May 2017. He fills the position left vacant after Tasman Page stepped down last month.

A Menulog spokesperson said of the appointment: “Menulog is excited to announce the appointment of Simon Cheng in the role of Marketing Director.

“Coming to Menulog from roles in the retail, travel and hospitality industries, Simon will lead Menulog’s marketing and communication strategy, overseeing an experienced team of thirteen across digital and social marketing, CRM and loyalty, brand marketing, PR, events and partnerships and, trade marketing.

“Simon’s remit will be to leverage this unique position to take advantage of the huge market opportunity, driving customer acquisition and loyalty, as well as profitable growth for the Menuog network.

Menulog managing director Alistair Venn said: “Simon brings a wealth of experience to Menulog, having held diverse roles across sales and marketing, both in-house and agency-side. Simon’s years of marketing experience, coupled with his commercial focus, made him a real stand out for the position. We’re really looking forward to having him on board.”

Cheng added: “Online food delivery is a very exciting industry. The competitive landscape coupled with the huge potential for growth really drew me to the role. Menulog’s journey over the past 13 years has been incredible and I am looking forward to working with the marketing team and broader business to further accelerate Menulog’s growth in 2019 and beyond.”

His move comes a week after Healthy Life announced it would join forces with Australia’s biggest health food chain, Go Vita with the Healthy Life stores taking on the Go Vita name.

Cheng joined Carnival – which owns P&O – in November 2008 as a marketing director and was promoted to director of marketing and distribution in March 2014 before moving into his current role February last year.

Prior to his seven year stint at P&O, Cheng served as marketing communications officer at Qantas Holiday as an account director at McCann Erickson.

Menulog underwent a number of changes under Page, having refreshed its brand and appointed actor Jeff Goldblum as its new face in a 2017 campaign led by Y&R.

In May last year, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne dislodged Y&R from the account following a competitive pitch.
