Surfing the crimson wave: Bodyform comes clean
Dr Mumbo very much enjoyed this response to social media criticism from Bodyform.
He can’t help wishing more brands would respond to Facebook trolls with such wit and panache, rather than going into meltdown over the smallest criticism…
The blue water is a particularly delicious touch.
I’d hardly call the original post that the video was made in response to trolling, or social media criticism.
If you actually read it, it’s someone having a laugh – not something for any brand to go into “meltdown over”
If anything, they could have just left it, and not responded, but saw it as an opportunity to have a bit of fun and generate some coverage for the brand (which really should include the original Facebook post – it’s on Mashable if you need it, Mumbrella)

We did indeed read it, Ben. No need to send us to accuracy school just yet. We just thought the clip was amusing and worth sharing. This is the Mumbo, not the news section.

Have to agree with Ben here, and the cynic in me would see the intro to this piece as a clear “writing for SEO” example of how to craft the piece for good exposure across current topical themes.
The original piece is neither trolling not criticism, merely someone liking the sound of his own humorous words, (like me!).
The response from Bodyform took that same humorous intent and skilfully turned it up to 11, with, as you say, wit and panache. There was nothing that I could see (from an admittedly male perspective) in the FB post to warrant anything but this sort of response.
Now if they could reply to Alan Jones….

I’m curious to know how they were able to get write a script, get client approval, cast, shoot and edit in such a short length of time.

Very brave for SCA, the swedes are usually so risk averse. Bravo.

The original email is clearly staged so they could ‘dummy’ their response.

I’m confused…the original post wasn’t even criticism or trolling, just some guy having a laugh. It seems strange the company had to make such a complex response to what was essentially a pub joke.
