Big W moves creative account in-house

Woolworths-owned retailer Big W has moved its creative account in-house, Mumbrella can reveal.

Leo Burnett Sydney was previously the incumbent agency, but lost the account over 18 months ago.

Ana Maria Escobar, who is the general manager of creative, design, online and marketing, will oversee all of Big W’s creative duties.

A spokesperson from Leo Burnett told Mumbrella: “Leo Burnett has not worked with the Woolworths Group, including Big W, for over 18 months.”

Leo Burnett lost the Woolworths account to M&C Saatchi last year, however, it was noted at the time Leo Burnett would retain the Big W business.

Leo Burnett was appointed in May 2015 to reposition the brand after Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney lost the account.

This year Leo Burnett has lost two accounts as Catltex appointed Saatchi & Saatchi to handle its creative duties and McDonald’s consolidated its whole account with DDB Sydney.

Escobar will be in charge of BIG W’s creative duties

Escobar joined Big W in February 2016 as its marketing director at the time Alison Jones departed.

Prior to Big W, Escobar was the GM and creative director at Oroton for just over two years.

Big W confirmed the change in agency but declined to formally comment on any further questions.
