Content Coordinator – Melbourne Zoo

Victoria operates three world-class zoos: Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary. An exciting opportunity exists for a communicator with a passion for wildlife and digital nous to continue Zoos Victoria’s proactive publicity work as part of the Zoos Victoria Digital Newsroom team. The Melbourne Zoo Content Coordinator is responsible for supporting the delivery of appealing digital content to news media outlets to increase visitation and promote Zoos Victoria’s fighting wildlife extinction and conservation messages.

In this role, the successful applicant will seek out information and facts to develop into stories to be pitched to news media outlets. Under the supervision of the Melbourne Zoo Senior Reporter, they will work with Zoos Victoria’s videographers and photographers to manage the production of appealing digital content about Melbourne Zoo’s animals, conservation campaigns, programs, events and people, to publicise Zoos Victoria’s fighting extinction message and encourage visitation to our zoos.

The successful applicant will have a thorough understanding of news media storytelling requirements, strong writing and communication skills, some experience in creating digital content for news media outlets, an understanding of how to pitch to news media outlets and high-level organisational skills. In addition, you will hold tertiary qualifications in journalism and/or public relations or have in-field experience in communications. Experience or knowledge of working with science, environment, conservation and not-for-profit sectors will also be advantageous.

A current Victorian Driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle is essential.
