Magnum & Co changes ownership as founder exits after 16 years

Independent brand communications agency, Magnum & Co’s director and co-owner, Katie Barclay, has acquired the agency as founder, chairperson and majority shareholder Michelle Hampton exits after 16 years.

Magnum & Co’s current clients include Converse, Goodman Fielder, L’Oréal, RSPCA, GoDaddy, Peters Ice Cream, Pizza Hut, Square Enix, Arcadian Organic, Queensland Strawberries, and Homeloans.com.au.

Barclay noted: “As Magnum continues to go from strength-to-strength, I’m excited to take the reins and lead us into a new chapter. I couldn’t ask for a better team of smart, like-minded and ultimately nice people to be working with as we build out the future of the agency. After 11 years leading Magnum together and working on some incredible projects with brands like Red Bull, Ubisoft and Pizza Hut, I wish Michelle all the best.”

Hampton commented: “I never started Magnum with the intention to build it into what it is today. In all honesty, at 25 years of age, I quit my job at the time because I wanted to work my own hours, make my own rules, and partner with brands I was genuinely interested in; ones that wanted to think differently.

“It was never about making money, but I knew my value and was relentless about doing great work, and I believe that’s why Magnum became successful very quickly. Brands saw genuine passion and a willingness to work hard to authentically build their businesses,” added Hampton.

Hampton reflects on the past 16 years, commenting: “It’s hard to sum up 16 years into a few sentences but I’m incredibly proud and grateful for all the experiences I’ve been a part of at Magnum. From launching a man into (almost) space with Red Bull Stratos, to launching GoDaddy’s website builder and a hot sauce with Aussie legend Ray Meagher, to turning a Jetstar plane into a mid-air press conference with the world’s best surfers for Quiksilver, not to mention Christmas gifting with Australia Post, and more recently, launching Gelato Messina Bars in
supermarkets.”

“After achieving so much over the last 16 years, it is time for me to move on and focus on some new ventures. I will always have fond memories of my time at Magnum, from the very beginning, being that young and eager 25-year-old, following a raw desire to do things differently; leading me on an incredible journey of fun, hard work, rewarding experiences and working with some astoundingly talented and lovely people,” Hampton commented.
