I’m always surprised at how poorly soccer rates in this country. The pinnacle of the game – its own grand final – and it struggles to beat Peppa Pig! Meanwhile a mid-table game between Newcastle and Wests and a match of similar import in AFL – between Collingwood and Richmond – easily have more viewers.
Is it due to the game being screened on SBS? Are some remotes just stuck on channels 7 and 9?

@Jacob: it still did an extra 251k on Fox Sports, which is pretty substantial for pay TV. It’s a very different game to NRL and AFL and I can see why people can get frustrated by the stop / start of it and all the dives. I think it’s a better atmosphere at the game than from the TV.

No mate, it’s just the reality of soccers support. I’m told that 300,000,000 (that’s 300 million) watched the game. LMFAO

Jacob – the SBS broadcast was delayed by 1 hr. Amazing they got 295,000 – anyone who wanted to watch this would simply go down the pub or to a mate’s place.

I was at a packed pub. Nobody wants to watch a football final on delay.

@Jacob. It’s ‘football’ not soccer… 😉
It was aired live on Fox, (the SBS coverage was a replay) and most loyal fans would have watched live at the pub (Foxtel).

Agree with C – much better being there than watching it on TV. Same with AFL but the opposite for NRL

@jacob, @C. Have to agree, surely the grand final of any sport would rate higher.
GF Should have possibly gone to Sydney as the market and population in general appreciate the stop/start of the game a bit more. The atmosphere at a A-league game is second to none, wish tahs could have that much passion.

Soccer’s crap to watch compared to AFL and NRL. Fairly simple, really.
Aussies know that.
