Ten’s The Bachelor continues strong start but The Hotplate remains ratings winner

hotplate logo screen shotThe new season of The Bachelor continued to charm audiences last night although it was Channel Nine’s The Hotplate that continued its roll at the top of the TV pile last night.

The cooking show, which could be pulled off air after today if Seven Network is successful in a court action, had an audience of 913,000, although that was down on Tuesday night’s 942,000, as both reality shows battled it out in the 7.30pm slot.

Channel Ten’s dating show had 805,000 viewers according to OzTam overnight metro ratings, 40,000 fewer than its record launch night last Wednesday, but topped every advertising demographic with The Hotplate third in all but the 25-54 group, where it came second.

Despite dropping Restaurant Revolution from its schedule Seven managed a competitive evening with Border security in the 7.30pm slot picking up 753,000 viewers and Criminal Minds at 8.30pm grabbing 615,000.

Madam Secretary, which followed on the back of The Bachelor at 8.40 had 482,000 viewers compared to Channel Nine’s The Mysteries of Laura, which followed The Hotplate, with 395,000.

How Not to Behave and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering on the ABC picked up 524,000 and 665,000 viewers respectively between 8pm and 9pm, while Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery managed 556,000 at 9pm.

Channel Nine’s Today show (328,000) pipped Seven’s Sunrise (323,000) in the breakfast ratings battle.

Nine also topped the news ratings, with its bulletin at 6pm pulling in 1.11m and the 6.30pm version watched by 1.07m.

Seven News at 6pm had 1m viewers, which fell to 909,000 for the Seven News/Today Tonight programme.

Nine performed best overall with 18.3 per cent of the market share, just ahead of Seven with 18 per cent. Despite The Bachelor’s success, Ten’s share was just 14 per cent, ahead of the ABC with 13.3 per cent.
