A spokesperson said in a statement to Mumbrella: “We had a huge response to the EOI [expressions of interest] announcement, with many capable and creative responses.

“We finally selected three agencies that we felt would best fit our needs, across content development, brand collaboration and campaigns, and general media relations and press office.

“We’ll use the three agencies as and when required and have appointed Edelman, Poem and PEPR on a three-year contract.”

Prior to the tender, Tourism Fiji’s PR agency of record was Verve Communications.

Fern Canning-Brooke, managing director at Edelman, said the win bolsters the agency’s experience in the travel in tourism sector especially after winning Mumbrella’s PR Travel Agency of the Year.

“Who wouldn’t want to work with Fiji Tourism? 333 islands offering so much and so close to our shores. We are working on creative campaigns outside of the day-to-day press office which will put Fiji in the spotlight in unexpected ways and firmly put the ‘home of happiness’ on Aussie holiday-makers hit lists.”

Matt Holmes, co-founder and director of Poem, said the agency has focused on creative ideas and is excited to work with Tourism Fiji.

“Our ‘be more human’ approach and focus on creative PR ideas that move people fit so well with Fiji’s happiness message. We’re really looking forward to helping make Fiji famous for this in a category that can evoke so much positive emotion.”

Philip Engelberts, director of PEPR Publicity, said: “It’s an exciting time for the islands as we see new product such as Six Senses Fiji come online and growing visitor numbers and an increased appetite for neighbouring islands such as the Yasawas, Taveuni and Vanua Levu. We’re looking forward to sharing the many wonderful stories about Fiji and its people.”
