annual2015 (1)While the media side of things has been the focus of large amounts of pitch activity, there were also a number of creative account moves. With Optus and Virgin still in play, the first half of next year will see more shifts in the landscape.

The biggest account move of 2015 came just this month – with Qantas shaking up its agency roster, appointing The Monkeys, With Collective and BWM Dentsu.

QantasThe national airline looked to appoint new agencies following on from the death of Neil Lawrence who masterminded the last brand campaign and the demise of Droga5 Sydney. It is understood M&C Saatchi and Special Group were also in contention in the pitch.

While Optus and Virgin would fight it out for second and third place on the list, their creative accounts are still up in the air, meaning Volkswagen claims the second spot. The year kicked off with Volkswagen consolidating its creative account with DDB Sydney, handing the agency the creative for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Skoda brands after a lengthy pitch process.

It wasn’t all positive for DDB Sydney, with the agency losing its chunk of the Campbell Arnott’s creative account to the Clemenger Group in April. Campbell Arnott’s Australia consolidated its Campbell's Arnott'sentire creative account with the Clemenger Group, with fellow incumbent DDB Sydney losing its chunk of the account.

In February, Tourism Northern Territory raised eyebrows when it appointed a panel of 16 agencies. Common Ventures picked up the lead on the panel, with Balance Marketing, Boab Design, Communicate NT and Publicis Communications the other creative agencies to be appointed.

The start of the year also saw Lion Australia finalise its agency roster, appointing Host to work on its Tooheys beer brand. Host joined BMF and Ogilvy on the roster.

Other account moves throughout the year include VML Sydney picking up McDonald’s social and digital account in March, Coles Liquor handed AJF Melbourne creative and strategic duties in February, McCann Melbourne won the AGL Energy account in January and 303Lowe ditched the full-service account for Citroën to pick up the creative duties for Audi in May.
