72andSunny hires Ross Berthinussen as executive strategy director in Sydney

Former head of strategy at M&C Saatchi, Ross Berthinussen, has come on board at 72andSunny in Sydney as executive strategy director.

Berthinussen had been heading up M&C Saatchi-backed creative agency Ugly alongside Anomaly Amsterdam’s founding partner and CEO Hazelle Klonhammer, and TBWA’s ex executive creative director Gary McCreadie, however after one year in business McCreadie departed to become ECD at 303 MullenLowe. The agency then shut in October.

Berthinussen has also worked in London at Grey and BBH

72andSunny launched in Australia in 2017, and has worked with clients including Ebay and Optus. Since launch, it has also made a number of key hires including appointing Micah Walker as executive creative director, and The Monkeys’ Tara Jaijee as business development director.

Berthinussen now joins Walker and Jaijee, as well as president and partner APAC, Chris Kay, and APAC director of talent and operations, Ngaio McCreadie.

Kay said Berthinussen was wicked smart, creatively entrepreneurial, and an all-round good human.

“Having him come on board has been a breath of fresh air in our team, and already we can see the value he brings in both answering the work in front of us, as well as helping unpick where a creative company can iterate, and be unpredictable in its growth into the future,” he said.

Berthinussen said he was thrilled to be joining the agency.

“It’s such an awesome team, company and brand,” he said. “It’s a privilege to be able to help shape what it can mean in Australia.”
