Kim Doherty joins Wentworth Courier as guest editor, Steve Howard shifts to Manly Daily

News Corp has reshuffled its NewsLocal team with the Wentworth Courier’s editor Steve Howard filling the role of editor at The Manly Daily, and former Australian Women’s Weekly editor Kim Doherty resurfacing as ‘guest editor’ of Wentworth Courier for six months.

The Manly Daily’s news editor Louise Roberts will enter a newly created role as executive editor of NewsLocal.

Doherty left Bauer Media’s Australian Women’s Weekly three months ago

Howard’s appointment comes a month after the announcement Nick Calacouras would depart The Manly Daily after three years.

Doherty’s appointment comes three months after her departure from Bauer Media’s AWW, after she said she wanted to spend time with family and “pursue new opportunities”.

Howard joins The Manly Daily after almost four years at the Wentworth Courier. Prior to that he was group general manager of editorial, and has edited The Daily Telegraph and The Advertiser in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, Doherty’s appointment sees her return to News Corp, where she was editor in chief of kidspot.com.au for six months.

Howard will move from the Eastern suburbs’ publication to cover news in Manly

John McGourty, publisher of NewsLocal at News Corp Australia said of Howard’s appointment: “Manly has been Steve’s spiritual home for many years surfing the northern beaches and his new role will give him a unique local perspective on its audience and clients.”

McGourty added Doherty was a “passionate and active” Eastern Suburbs local.

Meanwhile, Roberts, currently news editor of the Manly Daily will aim to build a new content strategy across print and digital in her new role.

Louise Roberts is to become NewsLocal’s first executive editor

She has previously worked in editorial roles across the UK, US and Australia.

Doherty commences her new role on October 18, Howard is set to join the Manly Daily on October 25, and Roberts starts her new role on October 30.
