Publicis hires Matt Cooney as first chief growth officer

Publicis Communications has appointed Matt Cooney as its first ever chief growth officer.

Previously Cooney has held positions at BBH, hhcl+p and Fallon in the UK and has also been a member of the Host Sydney management team.

Cooney joins Publicis Communications as its first Australian chief growth officer

The appointment comes five months after the CEO of Publicis Worldwide and chairman of Publicis Communications across Australia and New Zealand, Andrew Baxter, resigned.

That same month, Former Havas CEO Anthony Gregorio took the helm of Saatchi & Saatchi while former CEO Mike Robelo said he would focus on leading Publicis across Australia and New Zealand.

Cooney will work closely with Rebelo to develop the group’s business strategy across its suite of agencies.

Publicis’ agencies include Saatchi & Saatchi, Marcel, Publicis Engine and Publicis Worldwide.

“Publicis Communication’s new business success for the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Campbell-Arnott’s have demonstrated the effectiveness of our ‘power of one’ philosophy.

“Matt has been key to these wins and in his new role will help to further harness the combined potential of our diverse set of agencies and capabilities,” Rebelo said in a statement.

Cooney added: “I’m delighted to be working with such a talented, progressive and humble bunch of people. In my time as a consultant, I’ve admired Mike Rebelo, and his various agency teams’ drive.

“Ultimately, it’s that innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that makes this a fantastic opportunity.”
