Southern Cross Austereo’s new director of digital and innovation Clive Dickens has made on of his first appointments since joining the company from the UK. He has appointed former BBC Radio producer Chris Johnson as digital content and product director.

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has appointed Chris Johnson as Digital Content and Product Director, a role that will see him drive the progress and continued success of SCA’s extensive and innovative digital portfolio.

Chris Johnson joins SCA with a wealth of digital experience including an acclaimed history with the world renowned and award winning digital team at the BBC in the UK and the highly regarded www.kidspot.com.au, part of News Corp Australia. Reporting to Director of Digital and Innovation Clive Dickens, Chris will oversee a well-established national team of SCA digital content superstars, and will be based in the Melbourne market from mid-September.

Chris’ role as Digital Content and Product Director will focus on propelling SCA forward in the quickly evolving digital space, and ingrain the company’s digital content and product strategy across all elements of the multi-platform business.

SCA Director of Digital & Innovation Clive Dickens said, “I am thrilled that Chris Johnson has agreed to lead our Digital Content Team. His unique experience of Broadcast Radio within the Digital Team at the BBC and targeted consumer media at Kidspot as part News Corp Australia will be a great asset to SCA.”

Chris Johnson is extremely passionate about the web’s relationship with radio and has been involved with the online space for over a decade. He most recently hails from www.kidspot.com.au (Australia’s no. 1 parenting website) where he was head of product development and ad operations.

Whilst in the UK at National Music Station BBC Radio 1, Chris helped strengthen the real-time relationship between radio DJs and audiences by producing ground-breaking digital products and content across desktop and mobile platforms. Chris began at the BBC as a web developer in 2006 after completing Masters Degree in Computer Science, and has maintained a fascination with digital media, user experience and experimenting with new technologies throughout his career.
