Heinz squeezes the truth out of Ketchup

BD Network has created a press, poster and online campaign for Heinz Tomato Ketchup to get under the skin of what the product really means to Australian consumers.

“Here in Australia there is some confusion over what Ketchup really is and Heinz Tomato Ketchup is here to tell people in person and speak for itself,” said Jamie Chater, senior brand manager at Heinz.

“As the original premium market leader within this category we simply wanted to communicate that Heinz Tomato Ketchup has more tomatoes and is therefore, thicker, richer and fuller in taste.”

  2. Most people who live on the Australian continent do not wish to become more American. I won’t buy ketchup as I live in Australia.
Imagine if Telstra started advertising cell phones, Australia Post asked for your zip code, Holden made an SUV, Arnotts made Tim Tam cookies, Luna Park sold cotton candy, Huggies sold diapers.
Differences make the world a great place.
Australians love Americans. Not to the point where we actually become Americans though.

  4. Well done on your patriotic little tantrum Nick.

Ketchup is completely different from tomato sauce. It’s a lot thicker and a different flavour all together. Get your facts right.

  8. When people are shopping in Woolworths their brains are thinking that they need to buy tomato sauce. They are not thinking of buying ketchup. The tomato sauce therefore has an advantage.
Tomato sauce is different to ketchup? A different flavour (or should I say flavor) all together? Then why do they stack it with the tomato sauce in the supermarket? Big mistake. Maybe Heinz should try and get it next to the pickled herring. Better still; place it next to the turkey jerky.

Correct – tomato ketchup and sauce are similar, but different.
    So what.

  18. Heinz Ketchup has been on the shelves for years here. Just because it’s now being promoted, you have a dig at it? Nickatnights, it’s still a sauce mate, so it is placed in the sauce section. I really don’t see what’s got you so riled up.

On to the story, it’s a shame they don’t have any search, because I couldn’t find the site if I wanted to.

  20. Ketchup is thicker and oh-so-much tastier than the red water people force themselves to consume int he name of national pride.

  22. Look, do I like Americans? Sure I like Americans. I was nailing this dame once. Real beauty. Redhead. Reminded me of ketchup. But would I marry her and move to America? No. Because while I love them, and their SUVs, I’m a tomato sauce man. Well, I like BBQ sauce if I’m really honest. Even on sausages.
