72andSunny’s creative lead, Andy Flemming, has announced his departure from the agency after three years.
Flemming joined 72andSunny in 2021 on a contractual basis, after an impressive 15-year tenure at M&C Saatchi. In 2022, he took on a permanent gig.
“Redundancy is a horrible word, which is why so few people mention it in their press releases,” Flemming told Mumbrella.
“Instead, they ‘part ways’ or ‘leave to pursue an exciting new venture’.

“Truth is, it happens to everyone at some point and it’s never personal. It’s just two cogs that used to spin perfectly and now aren’t quite connecting. Agencies change, structures change. And I’ve always loved getting stuck into a brief for a client I’ve never worked for.
“Leaving my mates at 72 will be hard as you get very close but hey, that’s what pubs are for.”

Flemming worked on 72andSunny’s award-winning ‘Helping You Help Them’ campaign for Google, and more recently, he worked with BCF, 4 Pines, Edith Cowan University, Taco Bell, and more.
His portfolio also includes ‘Ricky Gervais’ and ‘Idris Elba’ for Optus, ‘Can Kids’ for Commonwealth Bank and ‘Matesong’ for Tourism Australia. Alongside founding creative director, Tom McFarlane, Flemming also helped build the iconic CommBank’s ‘Can’ brand.
Flemming’s exit comes after fellow creative lead, Genevieve Hoey, ECDs, Scott McClelland, and Luke Martin also departed earlier this year. McClelland originally replaced Luke Martin as ECD, who moved to Afterpay in February.
“We thank Andy for his creativity and passion during his time at 72andSunny,” Ross Berthinussen, ANZ president of 72andSunny, told Mumbrella.
“We wish him all the very best for whatever lies ahead.”
His departure comes shortly before the agency is set to welcome Innocean’s Wesley Hawes as its new CCO.
“We are excited to look to the future with Wez Hawes joining in January as our chief creative officer and the new energy and talent he will bring to our growing company,” Berthinussen added.
He will lead the agency alongside Berthinussen and head of brand Laura Popa, pushing it through its next phase of growth.
The agency recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with new clients this year including BCF, MLC, Afterpay, and realestate.com.au.
