KFC and TikTok partner for virtual Buckethead campaign via Ogilvy

KFC’s Bucketheads are returning to the cricket this summer, in a new campaign that sees TikTok recreate the bucket as a 3D branded effect.

The Australian-first campaign allows Aussies to get involved at the cricket or at home, and even without an actual KFC bucket, and was developed by Ogilvy, opr Agency and Mediacom.

TikTok influencers don virtual KFC Bucketheads

KFC engaged a slew of TikTok creators to don their own virtual Bucketheads, with Benny Turland, Mansour Girls, Nat Alise and Alex Hayes all participating in the #Buckethead challenge.

The creators also encouraged TikTok users to create their own unique dance, based on umpire signals.

KFC Australia marketing director Sally Spriggs said this partnership will allow fans to get involved even if they can’t come to a game.

“2020 wasn’t exactly the year we hoped for, but at least we can end it on a high with an Aussie summer of cricket. While the cricket season may look a little different this year, we’re excited to partner with TikTok to give fans a chance to don a Buckethead, even if they can’t get to a game.

“This campaign will add to the fun and excitement that comes with the game and we’re looking forward to seeing fans cut some shapes!”

TikTok Global Business Solutions, Australia and New Zealand GM, Brett Armstrong, added; “TikTok has always been about bringing people together to inspire each other and celebrate moments of joy.

“We’re thrilled to be working with KFC to launch this innovative campaign as we to continue to collaborate with partners to engage with new audiences in creative and fun ways and bring our deep understanding of local traditions to life.”

The campaign will also roll-out across the platform in TikTok’s top view and with in-feed ads to drive awareness.
