Netflix ANZ appoints Junkee Media to its social media and content account after pitch process

Junkee Media will create all social media content for Netflix ANZ after winning the account in a competitive pitch contest in late 2019.

Four new roles will be hired as part of the win – a managing editor, news editor, community editor and an AV editor.

Junkee Media will now manage Netflix’s ANZ social media content

The new team will work on the Netflix account creating both social content, but also in-depth long-form editorial. The news editor will act as the channel lead for the Netflix ANZ Twitter account. Junkee’s remit also includes the Netflix ANZ Facebook and Instagram accounts.

According to the job ads, more roles will be recruited to build out a full editorial team for the account.

Speaking on social media, Junkee Media publisher Tim Duggan said the business was “thrilled to be working with one of the world’s most exciting entertainment companies”.

Netflix officially entered the Australian market in 2015 and reportedly reaches 50% of Australia’s adult population. Towards the end of 2019, it opened its first Australian HQ, hiring two Sydney-based staffers – a head of publicity for ANZ and a director of public policy – and is expected to build a team of around 10 locally.

Prior to the opening of an office here, Netflix also had a number of support staff in Australia and a team member responsible for social editorial.

Ausfilm CEO Debra Richards became the production policy lead for ANZ in 2019, leaving the content attraction organisation after nine years. Part of her remit will be to encourage more Netflix commissions in Australia.

Outdoor company Ooh Media bought Junkee in 2016, snapping up 85% of the company. In 2017, the publisher launched Punkee, its platform aimed at Generation Z. Junkee rebranded from Sound Alliance in 2015.

Junkee has worked on creative campaigns for clients in the past, including a Nobby’s Nuts campaign which it created alongside PHD.
