Popcorn X wins Sydney Winter Festival

Popcorn X has a cool new addition to its event portfolio, taking on the management of The Winter Festival, Australia’s Largest Winter Event.

The release:

The Winter Festival is returning for Australians to experience the magic of winter traditions alongside the iconic open-air ice rink. With over 500,000 visitors and over 30 million touch points each year, this year Popcorn X will run the event in Darling Harbour Sydney during the months of June and July.

The Winter Festival launched in 2009 but took a hiatus as sponsorship deals fell through under the incumbent agency. Following an involved agency process Popcorn X have been appointed to run the Winter Festival having displayed a proven track record of over 15 years in event management and a diverse range of experiential campaign work on numerous global FMCG brands.

“Popcorn X was chosen having clearly outlined their methodology on cross promotion and building sponsorship campaigns through carefully considered strategic initiatives, which is vital for the events comeback,” said founder Chris Doerful.

In another first for the event, Popcorn X will be working with Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority to combine The Winter Festival with Darling Harbour’s new month long Cool Yule. Moving away from the previous St Mary’s Cathedral and Bondi Beach locations means a more central City destination, that’s more accessible for commuters and tourists.

The Winter Festival Ice rink will be the pinnacle of the precinct delivering a variety of experiential activations that will be spread throughout the Harbour. Popcorn X will produce these as a result of the sponsorship deals and client wins by the company.

The Winter Festival is bought to you by Air New Zealand who will be transporting visitors to Queenstown, thanks to the life-size Air New Zealand Snow Globes at Tumbalong Park and Palm Grove.

Sponsors, Lindt Chocolate Café and Popcorn X will be delivering the chance for attendee’s to float amongst the icebergs in giant Lindt Lindor Zorb Balls. To drive sales and maximise ROI for Lindt, attendees will have to spend $15 in store to receive a free ticket to ride.

Popcorn X is also working with Thredbo Resort to bring their brand to life by recreating the thrill of the ski slopes via an 25m inflatable slide and driving public to the destination with
discounted lift passes on their NSW mountain. Anyone can ride on the slide for free which will prove very popular through viral photography via social media.

Assisting with the launch of Google’s latest offering; City Experts, Google will have an exclusive ice hour on The Winter Festival ice rink from 6pm-7pm on the 20 – 22 June, as well
as a photographer taking instant print photos and a City Expert Igloo where customers can chill out, submit City Expert reviews on bars, restaurants and cafes.

“The agency looks forward to creating an unforgettable Winter Festival that will progress to various Australian cities year on year using a scalable strategy underpinned by solid partnerships,” said Popcorn X director Andrew Lemon.

This year, attendees can expect a jam-packed schedule, including ice-hockey shootouts, dazzling figure skaters, live entertainment and an Après Skate Lounge to warm the souls of even the coolest Australians.
