Animal Kingdom comes home

Animal Kingdom will be released on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow, with distributor Madman launching a huge promotional campaign – including a media kit with plastic animal figurines for the Australian press.

“If you find that a reaction like the one Animal Kingdom received following those early festival screenings doesn’t translate into Australian audiences going to see the film, you need to seriously wonder why you would bother going through the pain involved in getting an Australian film made,” said director David Michôd and producer Liz Watts in a joint statement.

Animal Kingdom is the third highest grossing local film of 2010, earning $4.87 at the Australian box office. It has also been released in the US, where it has made U$918,080 since its August 13 release.

The film has been sold to the UK, France, Italy, Scandinavia, Russia and Latin America, but it is yet to be released in those territories.

The promotional efforts include a beautifully presented media kit of the kind that is rarely seen nowadays.
