The announcement:

Aussie adventurers and South Pole record breakers, James ‘Cas’ Castrission and Justin ‘Jonesy’ Jones partner with Garmin to bring out Australia’s adventurous side

Sydney, 15 February 2012 – Fresh from smashing records in the South Pole, Aussie adventurers James Castrission and Justin Jones will be taking on a whole new quest as they partner with Garmin to share their passion for outdoor adventures with Australians everywhere.

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, is pairing up with the heroic duo to bring out Australians’ adventurous side. From the South Pole to the Great Southern Land, the brand ambassadors will spend the next year embarking on the Garmin Adventure around Australia. This initiative will see them involved in a campaign focused on getting Australians excited about the great outdoors and encouraging everyone to spend more time hiking, cycling, camping, road tripping and embracing a little more adrenaline in their lives.

James and Justin, or Cas and Jonesy, as they are more commonly known, have just returned from their world beating expedition in the South Pole where they became the first people to complete the perilous Antarctic trek unassisted.

“We may like to be big and bold about our experiences, but every Aussie can get amongst it with their own adventurous side too,” said James Castrission. “Partnering with Garmin gives us the chance to share this passion with all Australians and inspire a whole new group of outdoor loving people that are getting out there and embracing a range of exciting new opportunities.”

Cas and Jonesy will be also involved in promotional activity for new Garmin products across the brand’s broad range of class leading navigation devices. From in-car to cycling, hiking to four wheel driving, Garmin products allow consumers to live and breathe the very spirit of adventure as they take up Cas and Jonesy’s call for more action in our Australian lifestyle.

“Our 2,200 kilometre round trip in the South Pole was the greatest challenge we’ve ever undertaken and we’re proud of the funds we were able to raise for youth cancer charity You Can during the expedition,” said Justin Jones. “Although this is a journey of a very different kind, we are just as committed to increasing the adventure that Australians have in their lives and look forward to communicating that message in partnership with Garmin.”

Fighting snowstorms, fortnight long white-outs, Antarctic hallucinations and the odd friendly tiff on the ice, Cas and Jonesy are no stranger to putting it all on the line for adventure. It’s this quality that makes them an ideal match for the Garmin Adventure, says Trevor Berrange, Managing Director, Garmin Australasia.

“There’s so much raw excitement and a love of adventure in Cas and Jonesy, which is so clearly illustrated by their recent epic expedition,” says Berrange. “Garmin is proud to be collaborating with the duo to inspire Aussies to bring out their adventurous side and show them how our products can be your partner in whatever you decide to set out on.”
