Carlton Draught goes retro with ’80s ad and ’70s white can returning for Amber Jubilee
Carlton Draught has brought an ad from the mid 1980s out of the vault as the brand continues to celebrate its 150th anniversary or its ‘Amber Jubilee’.
The slightly tweaked ad promotes the brand bringing back a replica of its 1970s white can.

Mick McKeown, Carlton Draught’s marketing manager, said: “The ad will run throughout July and gives people a great glimpse of our past, questionable fashion and all. The white can would be burned into the memories of many of those old enough to drink in the late seventies and early eighties”
Carlton Draught kicked off its 150 year celebrations in March with the launch of the Amber Jubilee campaign, created by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.
Eventually phased out for a more modern look in the late 80s, the heritage white cans will be available throughout July or until sold out in Liquorland and First Choice.
The ad runs throughout July on Channel Seven.
It’s a shame beer brands don’t do this more often, my son (23) loves the Tooheys “How do you feel” campaign from the 80’s. People should be able to enjoy them again.

The funny thing is the old white label is way better than the new one. I haven’t had Carlton Draught in years but I actually bought a case a couple of days ago. Not a great beer, but at least it’s better than the other CUB swill known as VB. If it were up to me I would revert back to the old white label.

I have fond memeries of the white can, back in those days the cans were thick and hard enough to stand on, my Dad would take them to the footy and I’d stand on them to see over the fence..think CUB should bring the white back it is Carlton Draughts original colours
