Crikey apologises for Metro Media Publishing claim
News website Crikey has apologised to the Antony Catalano-led real estate publisher Metro Media Publishing for incorrectly suggesting yesterday that the company, which is also part owned by Fairfax Media, is facing cashflow issues.
In an apology today, Crikey said that the claims were false and retracted the item.
Catalano created Metro Media Publishing after being ousted from Fairfax. He built up the Victorian company through giving key real estate agents a stake in the business, and on the back of market share seized by the startup, Fairfax bought a slice of the business in 2011 in a deal valuing the business at more than $120m.
Hmm – a return to Crickey’s roots perhaps, when Stephen M happily admitted he shot first and asked question afterward – or words to that effect. It was kinda ok then, as Crikey readers and subscribers knew what they were getting. But now? Not so sure we’re as forgiving these days.

Amusing. Crikey usually runs Catalano spin.
