Early finish to cricket leads to quiet evening dominated by news as non-ratings period bites

sevenThe early finish to the cricket on Sunday led to a very quiet second evening of the non-ratings period, as news dominated the night.

Australia’s speedy dispatch of New Zealand meant Nine had to replace the night session of the test match with movie The Negotiator in all markets but Perth, which managed 308,000.

Seven won the night with an audience share of 18.1 per cent thanks to its news hour grabbing 1.065m at 6pm and 1.044m at 6.30pm.

Nine wasn’t too far behind with an audience share of 17.3 per cent after its news hour pulled in 975,000 at 6pm, growing to 1.007m from 6.30pm.

The ABC’s 7.30 was watched by 861,000, with Back Roads, on at 8pm, attracting an audience of 844,000. Foreign Correspondent’s climate change special How to Save the World at 8.30pm pulled in 702,000 metro viewers and helped the ABC to an audience share of 15.1 per cent ahead of Ten’s share of 12.3 per cent.

Ten’s The Biggest Loser Families was watched by 653,000 at 7.30pm and was the second most-watched show amongst 16-39 year olds and 25-54 year olds and the most-watched show amongst 18-49 year olds.

Seven’s Home and Away, airing from 7pm to 8pm, pulled in 735,000 viewers to be the 9th most-watched show of the evening, while The Chase Australia pulled in 644,000 metro viewers.

Ten’s Homeland, on at 9.30pm, was watched by 172,000. In time-shifted viewing, last week’s audience grabbed an extra 119,000 viewers to take its audience from 142,000 to 261,000.

Also in time-shifted viewing, last week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy on Seven was watched by an extra 119,000 viewers, taking its audience from 185,000 to 304,000.
