Frost to become The Frost Group with acquisition of The Nest
Sydney creative design agency Frost has acquired digital agency The Nest, expanding its digital offering and changing its name to The Frost Group.
Although The Nest will continue to operate independently, its 10 staff will move to Frost’s Surry Hills studio to provide the agency with a full in-house digital service.
Founder of The Nest Stuart Buchanan will become head of digital at The Frost Group.
Buchanan will work closely with executive creative director Vince Frost as well as Frost’s creative director Anthony Donovan. Buchanan will also sit on The Frost Group board.
Frost, who has been at the helm of his own agency since he moved to Australia in 2004, said: “The acquisition of The Nest has come at a time when digital is ever expanding in significance and crosses over into areas that we have traditionally owned. This move will feed the success of both Frost and The Nest.”
Buchanan, who founded The Nest in 2010, said the collaboration will help The Nest’s business to grow.
Frost has worked on Vivid Sydney, created a float for Mardi Gras and rebranded the Historic Houses Trust, among other things, and last year he won three Sydney Design Awards.
He joined Mumbrella for a live Google Hangout in April.

The Nest do amazing and truly innovative work – but they have tended to fly under the radar. This partnership is a great score for Frost and one to watch.

@ James M – Frost is more of a typographer than a designer (just look at his work). Plus, his agency is not really a branding agency. A branding agency is one that continues to work on a client’s brand and help evolve it. As Frost says in the attached video interview, he only works with clients on a project-by-project basis, not retainer. Therefore he’s more of a one-off designer than a branding agency helping impact a client’s brand long-term.

@ James M – designer or not, why does it matter where he is from?

Funny, in the interview, when asked “Who in the industry do you admire? Are their other people that you look at and think, that work’s great”, Frost quickly diverges his response to where he gets his inspiration from – pfft, what an ego!

I’ve heard this criticism more than a few times over the past little while, that Vince Frost is a more of a typographer, just a typographer, and so on. That’s complete rubbish, and no, for the record, I have never met Vince nor worked for Frost.
James, I’m not sure whether your comment is a critique of British designers, Australian designers or both. But it’s safe to say we need as many great designers in Australia as we can get, irrespective of where they might come from.
Phil, your definition of what makes a branding agency is way off the mark, and your distinction between ‘one-off designer’ and ‘branding agency’ kinda misses the point.

Mumbrella comments… what a sewer.
Congrats to Vince and Stuart. May the road rise for both of you.
