Dr Mumbo

GroupM’s damaging leak

Leaks have been much in the news of late, causing the removal of a Prime Minister no less.

And GroupM were understandably concerned when it was hit with its own major damaging leak last week – although this one was from an actual sprinkler.

As they set up for their innovation MLab event someone hit the sprinkler system at UTS, which apparently caused a fair bit of flooding in the building.

While the industry’s Chinese Whisper rumour mill was suggesting there was flooding to no less than six levels of UTS, Dr Mumbo is assured it only affected two levels, with carpets quickly removed and blowers brought in to dry things out ahead of the event.

A UTS spokesperson told Dr Mumbo: “The water damage extended to the floor below.

“Some electronic equipment was damaged, however it was possible to immediately replace this and have the facilities in working order in time for the event to be a great success.”

As for the damage bill, Dr Mumbo is told it is not in the millions (as some have suggested) but likely to be under $1,000.

“It is unknown at this time what the final cost of the damage caused by the flooding may be, the matter will be referred to our insurers,” said the UTS spokesman.
