Bored hipsters wanted
Dr Mumbo likes keeping an eye on Source Bottle as a hint on what features people are working on. But this callout from design agency Josephmark has him stumped:
Can you put on a pretentious, bored, nonchalant, AMERICAN accent? Think Hipster. Record your vocal chords and send them through by Wednesday 10th November – you will be paid in hugs, glory and cash.
Some of the lines will be:
“People think I’m rude because I don’t respond to them… but it’s just because I have nothing to say to them.”
“Sometime I just put my headphones on without listening to any music, just so people won’t want to talk to me.”
“I only eat organic produce. It’s better for me, and for the planet.”
“Yeah, I just spent the whole afternoon making these little animals badges out of found pieces of felt and ribbon.”
“I’m thinking of getting a tattoo of the word “helvetica” on my chest, but use Arial as the font… because it’s ironic.”
“Check out this case I got for my iphone. It’s made of wood right? But then it’s coated in plastic and painted to look like fake wood.”
“They’re so overrated.”
The American accent may be tricky, but when it comes to the search for hipsters, the agency may be looking in the right place.
However, Dr Mumbo is certain that there are better lines to be had.

Sounds like a great campaing – bashing hipsters is so cutting edge I’m sure any brand would be super excited to be associated with it.

I just finished reading Hell’s Angels by Hunter S Thompson, and constant reference is made to hipsters, beatniks, squares etc. (I got to wondering whether hipster was the origin of the word hippie, and wikipedia says it is.) So. umh, the NY article chronology looks a bit short-sighted to me…”..evolution from1999-2009″

On the article, wouldn’t they be better actually getting real Americans to do it? Y’know, bored ones. I feel sorry for whoever has to sit through and listen to the impressions…
