The issue is using a blanket response over a delicate situation.
And the problem are the journalists/cartoonists penchant for exaggeration.
The number of unsolved crimes (including murders) of tourists in India far outweighs the two recent incidences here – but you don’t see us calling India a racist country, just a dangerous one.
Australia is not a ‘safe’ country. Sure it is ‘safer’ than most, but we still have our own murders and heavy crimes each day.
Just because one of these involved an Indian student and there are ‘claims’ of it being racially motivated does not a fact make.
The Australian public (and journalists) needs to be smarter about this – but it seems the Tele took the bait on this one.

how can anyone – indian or australian – say the attacks are racially motivated? Victorian police don’t record ethnicity in their reports.
Until Vic police can PROVE it one way or the other, then jury’s out.
By the way, I wonder if Australians were being assaulted, murdered or mugged in India, if we’d consider it racially targeted or a part of life.

Isn’t this cartoon highlighting the stupidity of the racist stereotype of Vic Pol by the Indian media. Notably the police officer is still wearing the KKK hood while making the comment.

for anyone that thinks the portrayal of Australian police in KKK hoods is hyperbole:
