Kitchens still more popular than building sites as battle for reality TV viewers continues

MKRSeven’s My Kitchen Rules comfortably topped the TV ratings battle again last night despite an improved showing from The Block Triple Threat on Nine.

The 1.4m metro viewers who tuned in to MKR at 7.30 – down 120,000 on the last Tuesday outing on March 24 and a marginal fall from Monday night’s episode – helped Seven win the night with a audience share of 22.8 per cent, ahead of Nine’s 20.6 per cent.

Ten took 12.6 per cent while ABC captured 11 per cent audience share, according to OzTam overnight rankings.

While MKR continued to rate, The Block, which also aired at 7.30pm, improved on its previous Tuesday audience as it drew 949,000 viewers, a sharp increase on the 816,000 who tuned in on March 31. But it slipped from the 986,000 who watched on Monday.

Overall, however, both MKR and The Block Triple Threat continue to under perform compared to the previous series.

There was an improvement for Seven’s How to Get Away with Murder which attracted 502,000 viewers at 9pm, up from last week’s 422,000. It was the evening’s 20th most watched show.

Two repeat episodes of The Big Bang Theory which aired directly after The Block on Nine pulled in 859,00 and 857,000 respectively, while over on Ten, the 8.30pm episode of NCIS drew 525,000, falling to 363,000 for the second show at 9.30pm.

Ten’s reality documentaries, Gold Coast Cops at 7.30pm and Bondi Rescue at 8pm, pulled in 449,000 and 463,000 respectively.

ABC’s hour-long documentary on the Great Australian Fly which aired at 8.30pm attracted 515,000.

In news, four bulletins hit the one million mark with Nine News at 6pm winning the tussle with an audience of 1.15m, ahead of Seven News with 1.09m. Nine’s 6.30pm segment drew 1.05m with Seven News/Today Tonight watched by 1.04m.

A Current Affair on Nine was 980,000.
