News Corp opts out of Optus EPL coverage

News that Optus has nicked the English Premier League rights from Fox Sports made the front pages of pretty much every news website and channel in the country.

Except, that is, for any News Corp properties – the owners of Fox Sports.

While the news broke after Optus set up a press release at 9.24am, as of 11am Dr Mumbo couldn’t find any mention of it on sites including The Australian, Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph, or Fox Sports’ own site.

Similarly the Fox Sports News channel and Sky News channels seem to have missed it.

However the news hasn’t been missed by people on the Fox Sports Facebook page:

Updated 12.50pm: While Dr Mumbo still hasn’t seen the Optus story on any News sites it appears it did go up and then was removed from the Fox Sports website.

A link with the URL Optus to broadcast EPL in Australia appears in a Google search – but clicks through to a 404 message – page cannot be found.

Updated 2.44pm: Dr Mumbo’s attention has been drawn to a piece on the deal in the technology section of The Australian posted at 12.18pm, which has also been posted on the other business sections of News Corp sites including the Daily Telegraph, describing the deal as taking the rights from Foxtel.
