Only news bulletins do it for Thursday’s TV viewers

The lack of Thursday night football saw viewers turn away from free t0 air television on Thursday, with only three programs – Nine News (1.143m), Seven News (1.089m) and ABC News ( 1.016m) drawing more than 1m viewers.

Nine’s Top Gear Africa special rated 740,000 and was 11th for the night according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM. The Footy Show did slightly better for Nine, rating 851,000.

Seven’s broadcast of Australian comedy Any Questions For Ben? failed to improve on its performance at the box office last year, averaging 322,000 viewers, 27th for the night. Seven’s RSPCA Animal Rescue rated 748,000.

Ten’s best performer was Ten News At Five which rated 636,000.

ABC1’s consumer show The Checkout rated 748,000.

In the morning battle, Seven and Nine were again neck-and-neck with Sunrise beating Today by 329,000 to 328,000.

Because of Easter, the TV networks are not treating the week as a competitive ratings week.

Nine won the night with a 22.1 per cent share. This was followed by Seven with 17.6 per cent, ABC1 with 14.3 per cent and Ten with 12.9 per cent. SBS1 had a 5.8 per cent share. The newly relaunched SBS2 sank slightly to 0.6 per cent.
