News and current affairs dominate TV schedule

Better Homes and GardensNews and Current Affairs dominated the TV schedule across the networks with Seven’s Better Homes and Gardens Summer the top entertainment show of the night.

Preliminary overnight ratings from OzTam show Seven News and Today Tonight were the top programs of the night, with 969,000 and 888,000 metro viewers, helping Better Homes and Gardens win 649,000 viewers at 7pm.

Meanwhile ABC News won the 7pm timeslot and ABC1’s 7.30 summer edition was also the top show at 7.30pm with an audience of 620,000.

Nine followed with its travel show Getaway averaging 546,000 and Ten was third in the timeslot with Jamie Cooks Summer, a selection of recipes from previous Jamie Oliver cooking shows, winning 505,00o. Meanwhile the US sitcom How I Met Your Mother averaged 471,000 for Seven.

Nine won the 8.30pm timeslot with a new episode of Nine’s US import Person of Interest scoring more viewers than similar crime investigation dramas on Seven and Ten.

Person of Interest averaged 507,000 viewers as Seven’s Bones had 487,000 and Law and Order had 461,000 on Channel Ten.

However Ten won the 9.30pm timeslot with a second repeat of Law and Order winning 477,000 metro viewers as Grey’s Anatomy averaged 329,000 on Seven and Nine’s CSI: NY had 300,000.

Nine’s digital channel Go! was third in the 8.30pm timeslot with 329,000 tuning in for the family Christmas film Deck the Halls starring Danny De Vito and Matthew Broderick, helping it win a 7.8 per cent audience share.

Meanwhile the final episode of Masters of Sex averaged 179,000 as a repeat of the final of the first series of The Hour had 156,000 on ABC1.

Nine won the night with 18.8 per cent of the audience share but Seven was not far behind with 17 per cent, and Ten had a 14.4 per cent share.
