Ten staff told to talk up ‘critical’ catchup TV offering tenplay
Staff at Ten have been told to “talk up” the network’s relaunched catchup TV offering tenplay.
In an email to publicity staff, the network’s director of corporate and public communications Neil Shoebridge urges them to treat tenplay, which relaunched on Monday, as seriously as if it is another channel. Describing tenplay as “critical” to the business, Shoebridge wrote:
“A reminder to everyone to download the tenplay app on to your iPhone and iPad. (Android users will be able to do later this year).
“We need to think of tenplay as our fourth channel, along with TEN, ELEVEN and ONE. That is why is it now appearing on everything we send out: highlights, news releases, news alerts, everything.
“It is a critical part of the business, now and in the future. In the same way that you watch shows across TEN, ELEVEN and ONE, you should be very active users of tenplay and know it inside and out.
“You all are champions for our brands and content, and tenplay is part of that. It is a great product, something we should all be proud of, and we all need to talk it up, wherever and whenever we can.”
The relaunch of tenplay by chief digital officer Rebekah Horne comes as streamed TV becomes the next major battleground, with Foxtel already having its Go and Play offerings in the market, the ABC leading the chase for audience with iview and Seven and Nine set to launch a joint offering.
It must be confusing for the communications types out there, what with the channels in upper case (importance?) and streaming in lower case (afterthought?)…

Tenplay needs urgent attention. It crashes on opening and a review of comments on the app reveal that this is far from isolated. Good potential ruined by poor execution. You only get one chance to create a first impression

What with all their tit-alating line-up of Big Bros and Bachelors – why not cut to the chase and call it fourplay.

Why are so many companies still so fixated on building mobile apps for only one platform? Has Samsung’s MASSIVE push in to the AU market not shown Channel 10 that they need to create both an iOS and Android application in conjunction with one another and release them at the same time?

Not the greatest digital execution. Crashes, slow.

Good one, they cannot get anyone to watch their shows (which have paid advertising material placed in them), they cannot promote their own shoes (flower petals anyone), and now they want people to watch on their iPads – which is an advertising medium they are not presenting to the market in any credible way. Some people on big salaries there…. maybe they will bring back “i will survive” and do it as a reality show shot at the office….

Well done to everyone who worked on this project. I just visited the website and tested the iOS app. Beautiful simple design and fantastic navigation. I’m sure bugs will be fixed by version 1.01.

The IOS app works very nicely for me too, Anthony. No bugs experienced at all.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
The website is really good and streams well. Unfortunately there aren’t any programs I want to watch on ten.

@Anthony @mumbrella – good job not jumping on the haters bandwagon, and giving credit where it’s due

You can read the stella reviews. They can’t be faked… right?

Neil is often on this blog being extremely negative with and rude. Yet no one has followed suit or attacked him in any way (including the potential to point out grammar and typo mistakes). Well done all.
And we’ll done Ten on ten play it’s great.

The iOS app is almost there. Deal-breaker is that Airplay stops when the device screenlocks/goes to sleep. There’s a lot of shows missing from the Sony Bravia offering – instead of catching up on ‘Modern Family’ I can exact torture via episodes of ‘Being Lara Bingle’.

How can anyone take a push by TEN into streaming video seriously when they are the network that back the coalition and their plan to nobble a decent broadband network for Australia?

Works great, even on Telstra 3G ipad. Cool.

the mobile apps seem to work fine. the website does not. there are many problems with getting any videos to work due to the draconian way their system is set up. their primary focus is to get people using apps on mobile devices but they fail to acknowledge the fact that a lot of people use their computers. the site is poorly programmed and contains very little content. in regards to competition, who is there to compete with? iview? sbs’s on demand? iview is far superior and contains far more content. sbs’s on demand also fails to work properly on many computer systems and uses a substandard flash player but also contains far more content than tenplay. there’s no point trying to compete with foxtel’s mobile platform. the market is engineered in a way to benefit foxtel than the free to air providers, however, there is no excuse for free to air networks such as 10. 7 and 9 for providing such appalling online services in the year 2013. if ten are ‘betting the farm’ on this new online service then they’d better start packing their belongings. it will be spectacular failure.

Gee, it’s all very modern, isn’t it? Will they use it to repeat episodes of The Simpsons produced in 1989 for the 45238th time?

Despite the TV ad insinuating that you can wach tenplay anywhere on anything… they still dont have a Samsung TV app.
Yes we have an ipad, and an android pad, yes I have windows 8, BUT – I want to watch it on my TV, not some pissy little screen!
No, I dont want to by another box just for one channel! ,and no, I dont want to plug my computer into the TV. – its not convenient!
Please Channel 10, release a Samsung TV app!!!

What about being able to watch shows like Modern Family on the Sony Bravia app? The shows they have available are terrible.

It really is like a 4th channel, there are more ads than there are on TV…
