The Voice and MKR squeeze their competitors
Seven and Nine finished Tuesday night in a virtual dead heat as their reality behemoths of My Kitchen Rules and The Voice both delivered large audiences, leaving Ten’s the Biggest Loser with little room to breathe.
The Voice was top show for the night with an audience of 1.892m metro viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTAM. But Seven just won the night with a share of 27.8 per cent to Nine’s 26.4 per cent.
ABC1’s share was 11.3 per cent while Ten was on 10.9 per cent.
The only Ten entertainment shows to appear in the top 20 most watched were NCIS (595,000) and NCIS Los Angeles (513,000). The Biggest Loser rated just 382,000 – it only narrowly beat Who Do You Think You Are on SBS1, which featured Don Hany and rated 362,000.
MKR was the second biggest show of the night with 1.674m viewers. Seven’s Packed To The Rafters rated 1.422m.
News shows – dominated by coverage of the Boston bombings – also appeared strongly. Seven News rated 1.327m, while Nine News rated almost exactly the same on 1.326m. ABC News rated 904,000 and Ten News At Five rated 717,000.
In the key advertising demographics, Nine was the night’s winner.
- In 16-39, Seven was on 28.4 per cent and Nine on 29.6 per cent.
- In 18-49 Nine beat Seven 29.2 per cent to 29 per cent. Ten was on 12.1 per cent.
- In 25-54, Nine won 29.6 per cent to Seven’s 28.4 per cent.
Seven’s Sunrise beat Nine’s Today by 392,000 to 366,000, and Seven’s extended Sunrise (222,000), which replaced The Morning Show because of the bombings, was just ahead of the Today Special, which rated 210,000.

Is the Project considered to be a news show? If so, it didn’t get any boost out of the Boston bombing.

Very disappointing results for Ten. They’re going to have to get creative in order to wrestle back some viewership in my opinion.

Poor old Biggest Loser… but not at all a surprise when it’s up against The Voice and MKR..

Yes indeed @ Patty…..poor old Biggest Loser. The irony of the name isn’t lost when looking at these numbers. Personally I have consistently watched the past three seasons of Biggest Loser however the current season just misses the mark. For my mind its the absence of a strong “personality” within the contestants (its certainly not the loss of ninja girl trainer whose name I can’t remember)….. would have loved to have seen Big Kev and his mum make it past the first elimination round.
Of course the competition is VERY strong…… loving The Voice this year. I thought it would suffer without Keith Urban however Ricky Martin has been a great addition.
Nevertheless good luck TEN, I’d love to see you have a win.

The format of Biggest Loser isn’t evolving (other than striking on the idea of parental influence leading to obesity). It’s sad that they just dish the same format up all the time without any real thought.
All the trainers use the same format to get their team ship shape – mucho screaming has only so much appeal. The contestants are pretty much facing the same challenges and reacting the same way to the weight loss program. I’d prefer to see a commando style guy go up against a nutritionist, exercise physiologist and / or sports physiologist. Weight loss is more mental than physical and I’m sure it’d be fun to see Commando crushed by a tiny Poh Ling Yeow style psychologist or a Drew Ginn (ex Olympic rower and motivation speaker – he won a gold medal with a broken back). Power to the nerds in white coats style, I say.

I love The Project although I preferred it better when it started at 7pm as that’s when I get home every night. Can you change the time-slot to suit my work hours, please!
