APRIL 3, 2012: Weight Watchers has appointed UrsaClemenger to handle the brand’s launch into pharmacies across Australia.

The launch into pharmacies is motivated by recent studies published in The Lancet and the British Medical Journal showing that the Weight Watchers program provided significantly better outcomes than GP weight loss interventions.

Tony Karras, Weight Watchers director – business development, said: “Currently about 62 per cent of Australians are overweight or obese. The indisputable evidence of the effectiveness of Weight Watchers inspired us to form a partnership with Pharmacy Guild’s Gold Cross brand to bring a powerful weight loss solution to the pharmacy channel. We searched for a creative partner with significant pharmacy and weight loss credentials. UrsaClemenger’s ‘new health’ ideas demonstrated a clear understanding and passion for the category.”

Mardi Le Page, managing director of UrsaClemenger, added that working on such an inspiring initiative for Weight Watchers is a huge privilege.

“Weight Watchers is an iconic brand that combines innovation with compelling evidence and a real connection with their customers. They’re a perfect example of ‘the new health’.”

UrsaClemenger will manage the pharmacy business while incumbent BMF will continue to handle the Weight Watchers consumer campaign.
