World class rugby coverage from Nine
Dr Mumbo did enjoy the media experimentation being performed by Nine during the Rugby World Cup semi final between Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks to the brave approach by the network, we have now firmly established that a break in play is not long enough to insert an ad into without missing the restart.
Curiously the staff of The Punch appear not to have got the memo about Nine’s commitment to ratings over silly things like sport, posting on Facebook: “Oh, and we know this is a family website but would it kill channel nine to have 5 minutes of post-match analysis before UNDERFUCKING BELLY RAZOR???”
Dr Mumbo is at a loss to understand what people’s problem is. Surely they should be happy that Nine at least aired it live. For a change.
Ray Hadley commentating Rugby Union..

Channel 9 have done the worst job of broadcasting a sports event in the history of television. And they capped it off on Saturday night with Ray Hadley commentating.
They are handing Foxtel sports viewers on a silver platter. Thankgod for Foxtel this RWC

Like anyone serious about sport, I watched the match on Fox Sports. A question for the Nine viewers: does Ray Hadley know his breakdown from his play-the-ball?

I was gobsmacked at Nines poor coverage.
Advert’s whilst the game is playing and then no interviews or post match analysis at the end – straight into “we are all gangsters in Aus” belly…
Unless Nine have an agenda to help up Foxtel sub’s?

Channel 9’s coverage of the whole RWC is a disgrace. Ken Sutcliffe can’t even remember James Horwill’s name or pronounce Digby Ioane’s correctly. If you’re going to go to the trouble of acquiring the rights to show the games, do your homework and get at least one expert rather than these fools who’ve never watched a game of Rugby in their lives. All I can say is thank god for FOX SPORTS, their coverage was brilliant, uninterrupted and the commentary as always, was accurate and entertaining!

For the Australia v Wales game, Nine should give Alan Jones a crack at the commentary, assisted by Bob Dwyer and Jaynie Seal. At least one of those three should know what the weather’s gonna be like. Everything else will just be drivel. Then Nine should show the final on Sunday in the middle of Underbelly Razor, delayed by 30 minutes with lots of ads in between scrums and lineouts. Throw in a few stray comments about the pokies tax and it’ll be terrific!

What a joke. Ray Hadley is a radio rugby league commentator, not a TV rugby union commentator. In answer to your question Patrick, no. He kept saying “XY’s been put down in the tackle”, called James O’Connor “Justin Bieber” several times, and thought it was funny that “touch judges” get called “Assistant Referees” in union.
It just capped off coverage that has gone from disappointment to disappointment.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’ll be checking out Foxtel’s Olympic Games packages for next year…

I had the TV commentary down and “alternative” commentary sources after the 5,368th “plucked from the air” comment.
Never mind his comparison of a Wallaby to some Underbelly character.

Channel 7’s coverage of the World Cup Qualifier wasn’t much better

I notice in the Daily Tele today, Nine is reported to have been very impressed with Ray’s coverage, and he now has the gig for life. Thank God he’s immortal.

Nine is fully responsible for me being forced to the pub to watch the final this Sunday. Having been at the World Cup in New Zealand, if I wasn’t at a game, I was watching it on Maori TV, which aired every single game of the tournament LIVE free to air. Coming back to watch the semi-final on Nine on Sunday was beyond frustrating. If it wasn’t the fact that the commentators didn’t even know most of the All Black’s names.. ‘and the full back has the ball’, it was an ad or even TWO thrown in at every opportunity and then not even staying on air long enough to show the bloody captains interviews after the game, because a Fish called effin Wanda was on TV… Sweet Jesus, I’m glad a decent rugby bar is within walking distance of my house because I NEVER want to suffer through coverage like that again.
Rant Over.
P.S Go the Mighty All Blacks!
