HealthCAM 14

QUT’s Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety – Queensland (CARRS-Q), Faculties of Health and Creative Industries and the School of Business, welcome you to the first Australasian Symposium on Health Communication, Advertising and Marketing (Health CAM 14) which will be held in Brisbane, Australia, on Tuesday 30 September 2014.

With a theme of “The Future of Public Health Communication”, and a sub-theme of Government/lndustry/Research collaboration, the symposium will be a multidisciplinary event focusing on the development, communication, and evaluation of effective behaviour change campaigns in the area of Public Health.

The symposium will be a forum at which all those involved in health, advertising, public relations, campaign creation, behaviour change research, policy development, campaign implementation and evaluation can meet with researchers, academics, and professionals to discuss and present on the latest work being undertaken in these areas.

Featuring a strong program of international and national speakers from agency, client and government organisations, the objective of this symposium is to facilitate interaction between all people working in the field of health communications, with a special emphasis on building collaborative links between agencies, researchers and campaign clients. The format therefore is that of a research and practice oriented program, with plenty of opportunity for engagement, networking, communication and learning.

Confirmed speakers include:
• Professor Mohan J. Dutta, Head, Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore;
• Katie Delahaye Paine, CEO and Senior Consultant Paine Publishing, Durham, NH, USA;
• Associate Professor Samantha Thomas, University of Wollongong, Australia;
• John Thompson, General Manager, Mitchell and Partners, Australia;
• Professor Rebekah Russell-Bennett, Queensland University of Technology, Australia;
• Dr Graham Fraine, Deputy Director-General (Customer Services, Safety and Regulation), Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, Australia;
• Kevin Moreland, BCM, Australia; and
• Sally Tyrell, Head of Haystac Positive Outcomes, Haystac, Australia

The timing of this event capitalises on QUT also hosting the 2014 International Communication Association Regional Conference (ICA), which will be held over the three days immediately after this symposium, at the same city campus of the University. Delegates from the ICA Regional Conference are encouraged to also attend this event, particularly those with a strong interest in the health communications field.

Make sure you save the date and be in Brisbane for this inaugural event.
