Friday on My Mind: Melbourne – Marcia Gardner
Tone and direction – TV script producing & writing: Marcia Gardner
Television is writer-driven and Marcia Gardner says, “If a script is good, the episode will be good.” Script editors have many responsibilities that can include finding new script writers, developing story lines and series ideas, ensuring scripts are suitable for production, giving writer feedback, suggesting improvements along with ensuring that practical issues like series continuity, tone and direction are maintained.
Marcia has served as the script editor on some of Australia’s most successful TV dramas including; the AFI winning drama series Stingers and Sea Patrol, which consistently attracted over one million viewers a week and sold internationally into over 50 countries. Most recently Marcia script produced and wrote episodes for seasons two and three of the critically acclaimed Foxtel drama Wentworth and was also involved in drama program development for various companies and networks including; Fremantle Media (Mr & Mrs Murder, Better Man), Playmaker Media (Hiding, Lovechild), Network Ten, SBS, ABC and the Nine Network. Marcia also wrote for the super-successful The Doctor Blake Mysteries and is currently developing a new drama series for Playmaker Media.
Marcia will share her significant writing experience in the world of TV series drama with this week’s host John Wild.
