WOW FILM FESTIVAL 2017
Celebrating its 22nd year, WOW Film Festival, Australia’s longest running female film festival, announced EVENT CINEMAS as its official venue partner, as well as COMMUNE in Waterloo, promising to be a multisite and multidisciplinary festival for women working in screen and content creation.
Furthermore, the festival announced the name of the 2017 edition as Not Here to Make Friends, examining the “villainess” trope in reality tv and how this is changing coverage of female characters in screen content. WOWFF 2017 promises to be an exciting and challenging five days of films and panels by industry leaders and also hinted to a very “Unreal” special international keynote speaker. Further details of the April festival to follow.
“Event Cinemas sees this festival and hope it is not just a festival that naturally celebrates women in film, but inspires other women to pursue their visions so that we have a society that can experience far more than what we do today on what women have to say about the world we live in.” said Event Cinemas George Street General Manager, Anthony Kierann.
In the meantime, entries for the 22nd Film Festival have officially opened via FilmFreeway. Films must pass the “three tick test” meaning that of the four following roles – writer, producer, director and protagonist, three must be filled by female creatives. Entries close in January with accepted filmmakers notified in March.
Films can be submitted exclusively via FilmFreeway – https://filmfreeway.com/festival/WOWFF2017
