July 30, 2016: Ten – Update: Law & Order SVU

Ten has made a last minute change to the episode order for Law & Order: SVU. Originally, episode 21 was set to air last Thursday July 28, with episode 22 to air this Thursday August 4 at 8:30pm. The season final was set for August 11th.

Those plans have now been scrapped with Ten now totally skipping episode 21 and instead aired episode 22 last Thursday with the season final (ep 23) for season 17 due this week August 4th.

No reason for the skipping of this episode was made available by Ten. This may have been due to the season final not clashing with the Olympics, however, Ten could have shown a double episode on July 28 or August 4 as the network screens a repeat at 9:30pm anyhow.

However, on further inspection of the missing episode, the episode title and synopsis may give us a clue to its last minute yank from the schedule.

Episode Title: Assaulting Reality

Episode Description: The producers of a reality dating series make Benson and the SVU part of the show when they investigate a contestant’s claim that she was raped.

So, a rape on a dating reality show? This episode would have aired right after The Bachelor Australia and may have been a little too close for comfort.

The question to be asked of the audience would be – Is this a wise move given the show airs right after The Bachelor or Is Ten not giving its audience enough credit that they cannot make the distinction that the two shows have absolutely no connection?

Ten will eventually air the episode, but it will air out of order and follow events that have happened in the season final, so may not make complete sense.
