Mike Tancred steps down as Australian Olympic Committee’s director of media

Mike Tancred has stepped down as the Australian Olympic Committee’s director of media and communications after more than 18 years in the role.

Tancred has relinquished his position amid bullying allegations made by his former CEO Fiona de Jong.

Tancred joined the AOC as director of media communications in 1999

The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed Tancred had stepped down from the role “at this stage”.

According to an article published in the ABC, de Jong alleged Tancred threatened her and her family while she was in her role as CEO of the AOC.

In a statement a spokesperson from the AOC said: “The AOC has this afternoon received notice from Mike Tancred that he is “standing down from (his) position of AOC director of media and communications pending the outcome of any investigation of the complaint made against (him) by Fiona de Jong.”

“No further comment will be made,” the statement said.

Mumbrella understands he will not be replaced while he is standing down, the pending outcome of the investigation.
