Northern Territory Film Office moves to new division

The Northern Territory Film Office has been moved into the new Cultural Institutions and Collections division within the territory’s Department of Natural Resources, Environment, The Arts and Sport.

The Alice Springs-based NFTO will now report to the division’s executive director, Hugo Leschen.

“In practical terms, there are no immediate changes to the activities of the NTFO,” a spokesperson told Encore. “There are no specific initiatives that result from this change, which is structural and does not impact on the way the NTFO has been operating.”

The new division brings the NFTO together with Museums and Galleries of the NT, Araluen Cultural Precinct, Herbarium, George Brown Botanic Gardens, and the Defence of Darwin Project. These institutions will be joined by the NT Library and NT Archives Service on July 1.

The NFTO has supported the production of features such as Samson & Delilah, Balibo and Australia. It also supports the territory’s documentary production, having recently sent 12 filmmakers to the Australian International Documentary Conference in Adelaide.
