US digital TV switchover set to be postponed
Next month’s switchoff of the analogue TV signal in the US appears to be in doubt, with the US government set to order a delay of several months. The move is being closely watched in Australia for lessons that can be learned about our own switchover, which is due in four years time.
The main reaon for the probable delay in the US is a budget problem over vouchers that would get members of the public free set top boxes to watch digital signlas via their old TVs.
In Australia, the free TV providers have been criticised for offering little new choice with the Freeview marketing push, while Mumbrella has predicted problems for the roll out of digital radio and digital TV.
