‘We all have a role to play’: Sneesby pledges to make ‘cultural change’ at Nine following latest accusations
Nine CEO Mike Sneesby has told staff he and the leadership team are committed to “driving cultural change” after new accusations of sexual harassment and bullying were made against managers.
It was revealed this week that two more Nine managers were accused of “predatory behaviour” by a former female staffer who left the media giant in 2022. The complaint was reportedly made via Nine’s newly-established hotline for current and former staff who would like to report “sexual harassment or other inappropriate behaviours”.
It’s understood that a number of mistreatment complaints have been made through the hotline on the back of allegations made against former news boss, Darren Wick.
In an email sent to staff on Monday, Sneesby said the hotline – as well as an internal review, organisation-wide survey and a review by external consultant Intersection – are “crucial to ensuring all our people feel safe and respected in the workplace”.
“We are committed to ensuring that Nine’s culture is one where everyone feels respected, valued and included,” Sneesby’s email reads.
“That culture can only be delivered by acknowledging the issues of the past, recognising the changes in our present, and focusing on an energising future.
“We all have a role to play in making Nine the organisation we want it to be.”
It comes after famous Nine personality, Kerri-Anne Kennerly, took aim at the network regarding the controversy, saying: “History has just repeated itself.”
“I experienced the Nine culture, professionally and personally, over decades, and it is learned behaviour. Bad behaviour and bad management skills, or lack of them, was wrong, it always was wrong, but the perpetrators got away with it because they learned from senior management,” she said.
“It was entrenched by senior people (who had gone) before them.”
