Aussie film sales company takes 25 film-maker project to Cannes

An Australian film sales and distribution company will represent a new film, written, directed and produced by 25 film-makers from all over the world.

The Australian-based ScreenLaunch has teamed up with CollabFeature to represent the film The Owner at the 2012 Cannes Film market, Marche du Film.

Calling it a world first, The Owner was made by 25 film-makers from 13 countries on five continents, never officially meeting in person.

The film is set to make the Guinness Book of Records for the most key film-makers to work on a film.

The Owner follows the adventures of an old backpack passed from one character to another around the world. As the film progresses, the mystery behind the owner of the bag is revealed.

Ross Howden, ScreenLaunch CEO expects the film to be in high demand. He said: “We have already received immense interest in the film from international buyers, even though the film has not yet gone to market or premiered. Like with the ground-breaking Australian film The Tunnel, which we are also selling, the market seems to be opening up to different sorts of films and business models.”

Marty Shea of CollabFeature said: “The success of this world-first is bound to make marks in the international film industry and I look forward to seeing it filmed and viewed in countries all over the world – it truly has that international audience appeal that is so rare in independent films these days.”

The Owner will go to market on 15 May at Cannes Film Festival for international buyers. The film will then screen simultaneously across 13 countries on Friday 25 May.
