Chargebar pops up in Brisbane airport
Chargebar, a media start-up that makes kiosks where people can charge their mobile phones for free, has secured its first deal with an airport.
Brisbane’s domestic airport is the first air terminal in Australia to install a chargebar, with Vodafone the first sponsor.
The platform, which allows advertisers to run stills, TV spots, games, web banners and live feeds, as well as branding on the chargebar itself, has been used mostly in pubs and shopping centres to date.
“We’re excited to have Vodafone as our first sponsor in Australian Airports – the tagline ‘power to you’ has great synergy with our branded utility,” said founder and MD Jonathon Tanner. “We’re thrilled with the high usage after just one week and the goodwill which is being generated for the Vodafone brand.”
Chargebar was founded in 2010 by brothers Jonathon and Cameron Tanner. It has run campaigns for Peroni, Responsys, Optus, Bundaberg Rum and National Relay Service in venues such as The Ivy in Sydney and Westfield shopping centres in Chatswood and Miranda.
Tanner said his company was seeing the results from using high-speed charging technology developed in the US – not the “low quality, Chinese made” kiosks that have put agencies off using the medium.
The company has plans to launch an app that directs users to the nearest chargebar.

Saw these guys exhibit at Adtech, glad they got a deal as it’s a great idea and well executed. The whole thing can be skinned in advertisers colours, and even custom apps on the display such as games or product demo’s. These things should be everywhere.

A brilliant idea to plug and (covertly) hold a chargee’s attention. The skins really ‘pop’ and the bars themselves are slick. They’ve done this well.

Nice idea.
Used one at the Ivy the other week, was pretty handy. Suprised I haven’t seen more brands doing this…
