Ex-Clemenger BBDO Melbourne creative Chris Taylor, who launched now-defunct specialist radio agency Shabbadu six years ago, is having another go at going it alone.

Taylor’s new Melbourne-based creative agency will offer a freelance copywriting service for small to medium sized agencies who don’t have the capacity for the resource full-time.

His agency will retain the name of his old start-up, Shabbadu.

He told Mumbrella: “A lot of agencies are having a tough time of it at the moment. They’re letting senior staff go because they don’t have enough work to keep that level of expertise in the building. What I’m offering is a way to give smaller agencies grown-up expertise without having to pay for it full time.”

Taylor has already picked up two clients.

He added: “You might need an extra head to help deliver concepts for a brand brief, or you might simply need to refresh some copy or headlines and can’t afford to have a junior sweat over it for a few days. Having this resource up your sleeve ends up being more cost effective than getting a freelancer in on a day rate as a day’s work can often be fulfilled in around three hours.”

Taylor started Shabbadu: The Audio Agency in 2006, but the venture was closed when Taylor was offered a job as a senior writer at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.

His career also includes a stint at Sapient Nitro, where he was a senior writer, and as a creative consultant at Capital Radio. He has also worked as a copywriter at McCann and Y&R in Melbourne.
