Dismal debut for Reef Doctors

Ten’s premiere of Lisa McCune’s Reef Doctors scored just 357,000 viewers on Sunday night – marking one of the worst debuts for an Australian drama.

The one hour action adventure family drama set on the picturesque Great Barrier Reef co-directed by McCune had been sitting on the shelf at Channel Ten for more than six months before it launched at 6.30pm on Sunday.

However, although Reef Doctors’ ratings were poor, viewing across the board was slightly down because of the long public holiday weekend.

Masterchef brought just 648,000 viewers to Ten Sunday night, and American Sherlock Holmes drama Elementary drew an audience of 677,000, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.

Channel Nine was the most watched network of the night with Nine News the most watched program with 1.356m viewers. Home renovation show The Block, brought  an audience of 1.3m to Channel Nine, and 60 Minutes had 1.237m viewers.

Seven News was the third most watched program of the night with an audience of 1.277m, and Seven had over a million viewers of Sunday Night, A Place to Call Home, The Force and Border Security.

The second part of two-part ABC television drama Paper Giants drew 756,000 viewers Sunday night.

Seven’s weekend Sunrise narrowly won breakfast television with 328,00 viewers over Channel Nine’s Today’s audience of 295,000.
